Feng Tao’s research interests focus on the central mechanisms of analgesia and anesthesia. The goal of his work is to understand how the effects of analgesics and anesthetics on their neuronal targets are regulated. Specifically, he is interested in the regulation of central sensitization mediated by glutamate receptors and their interacting proteins. Dr. Tao recently has begun a collaboration with Dr. John McDonald’s laboratory in the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury at Kennedy Krieger Institute to address the problems of central chronic pain after spinal cord injury using a unique stem cell approach.

Alex Bekker is Professor and Chairman of Anesthesiology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He obtained his Doctoral Degree in Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and received his Medical Degree from the Rutgers – New Jersey Medical School. He completed his anesthesia training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Dr Bekker has joined the Department of Anesthesiology at the NYU Medical Center in1995 and was appointed a Vice-Chair for Research in 2005. Dr Bekker is internationally recognized expert in neuroanesthesia and is frequently invited to speak at Grand Rounds and Scientific Panels. Dr. Bekker has been active in research and for many years. He is an author of 65 peer reviewed publications, 6 US patents, 33 educational reviews and more than 100 abstracts. His work has focused on perioperative brain protection, neuroinflammation, postoperative pain control and clinical pharmacology. Dr Bekker was a PI of numerous clinical trials, including studies sponsored by the National Institute of Aging. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology and is ad hoc reviewer for 15 peer-reviewed journals, including NEJM, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery, PLoS One, and Anesthesia and Analgesia.

Michael W. Lew, M.D., a native of Southern California, attended Columbia University in New York prior to graduating magna cum laude from the University of Southern California in 1986. While at USC, he was elected to be a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Lew continued his postgraduate training and received his medical degree from the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine in 1990. Dr. Lew completed a residency at the University of Southern California, Keck School of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology of which during his last year he was a chief resident. In 1994, he joined the Department of Anesthesiology at City of Hope. In 1995, Dr. Lew became certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Dr. Lew served as the acting chair for the Department of Anesthesiology in 2001 for one and a half years before being chosen to be the chair of the Department of Anesthesiology in 2002. Yaacov Gozal, M.D is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem. He is the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine and Pain Treatment and director of the operating rooms at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem, Israel. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers and serves as an editorial board member of the Journal of Pharmacology and Toxicology.

Dr. Farnad Imani is an associate professor with eighteen years' experience in academic postgraduate teaching in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He is chairman of department of anesthesiology and pain medicine in Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS). He is founder of academic pain fellowship in Iran at 2006, and established the pain ward and interventional pain operation room in Rasoul Akram Medical Center at the first time in Iran. Qiao Li is a member of the Tumor Immunology Program of the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Michigan. His research to develop innovative cancer treatment approaches through adoptive immunotherapy is clinically relevant. A novel protocol based on Dr. Li's effort utilizing activated T cells is funded by NIH and is now being used in a clinical trial to treat renal cell cancers at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

Bonnie Molloy is a Quality/Risk Manager and a nurse anesthetist, working at both St. Vincent's and Bridgeport Hospitals. She earned her PhD from the University of Connecticut-Storrs.
